Immunity for kings
"The nature of that power requires that a former President have some immunity from criminal prosecution for official acts during his tenure in office." — US Supreme Court, July 2024
A political illustration in response to the decision handed down by the Supreme Court in relation to Trump being criminally prosecuted. I challenged myself to complete this piece in less than 24 hours because the verdict was given July 1st and I felt the irony was more impactful sharing it on Independence Day. I also wanted to test if I could make an illustration fast enough for an editorial timeline that still felt like myself. Though it was also important to pay homage to JC Leyendecker with this piece as the original composition was a key part of the reality I was trying to convey. Uncle Sam accepting his crown and scepter from a Supreme Court Justice as the United States celebrates its Independence from British Monarchy.
